The Valisi were a prospective Federation member known for their particular social blend of science and religion.

Background[]

In 2412, the Valisi were famous for their advanced computer programming skills and they were frequently employed off their homeworld in this area.  Valisi helped write some of the most successful simulation programs in use throughout the Federation and were contracted in partnership with the Bynars for the software engineering in the Vesta-class line of ships launched by

The Valisi were unique among Federation members, allies, and potential members for their approach to science and religion.  Like the Vulcans, the Valisi embraced a philosophy of logic and empiricism, but unlike that founding race, the logic of the Valisi was dictated by a dedication to deeply-rooted skepticism and a strong belief that there is always more knowledge and data to uncover.  This is expressed most clearly in the Valisi concept of "The Information," what they believe to be the root level of universal existence.

According to Valisi belief, the Information can only be fully understood with the inevitable revelation of "the All Life Equation," sometimes referred to by its product "the Sum of All Things."  Valisi mathematicians and scholars dedicate their lives to the study of The Information and the development of the All Life Equation with the ultimate goal of total understanding and enlightenment.

The Valisi government is composed of three branches:  The Will of the People functions as both an executive and legislative branch, directing the resources of society by referendums on the local, regional and global levels; The Curia Logia, or Court of Logic, that subjects all referendums and actions to strict rules of ethics and logic and issues non-binding opinions; and The University of Understanding, a conclave of scientific and religious scholars tasked with developing Valisi knowledge and philosophy and issuing suggestions for initiatives to The Will of the People.

Encounters[]

In early 2413, the Valisi application to the Federation was rejected after Bamis, a Logician Second-Level who was working on experimental upgrades to ACI-01's computer systems, used the station as a harmonic resonator to open a rift in space.  The rift expanded rapidly, destroying one shuttle, the USS Turing, and heavily damaging the USS Eureka before it was closed.  Bamis had hoped that the rift would consume everything around it, reducing existence to a quantum level of information and providing the final variables for the All-Life Equation.

His efforts were foiled by ACI officers Raymond Leasor, Syeisi, and Anoyda, but ACI-01 was left crippled, its main computer invaded by Bamis's program and power systems destroyed.
